Cookie Policy

Last updated: March 21, 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how AiCitationChecker ("we," "us," or "our"), accessible at aicitationchecker.org, uses cookies. Given the nature of our Service, we use an extremely minimal set of cookies — only what is strictly necessary to keep the application functional.

What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your web browser when you visit a website. They allow the website to remember certain information about your visit. Cookies can be "session cookies" (deleted when you close your browser) or "persistent cookies" (stored for a set period). They can be set by the website you are visiting ("first-party") or by third-party services embedded on that page.

Cookies We Use

AiCitationChecker uses only strictly necessary cookies. We do not use analytics, advertising, tracking, or profiling cookies of any kind.

First-Party Cookies

Cookie TypePurposeDurationParty
Session cookie (authentication token) Maintains your authenticated login state while you are actively using the Service. Without this cookie, you would be logged out on every page load. Session (deleted when you close your browser or log out) First-party
CSRF token cookie Protects against cross-site request forgery attacks. Required for secure form submissions within the application. Session First-party

Third-Party Cookies — Lemon Squeezy (Checkout Only)

When you initiate a purchase, our checkout is powered by Lemon Squeezy. During the payment flow, Lemon Squeezy may set its own cookies to maintain your checkout session state, prevent fraud, and ensure payment security. These cookies are set by Lemon Squeezy — not by AiCitationChecker — and are governed by Lemon Squeezy's Privacy Policy. They are only active during the checkout process and are not used for advertising or behavioral tracking.

Do We Need Your Consent for These Cookies?

No consent banner is required for strictly necessary cookies.

Under Article 5(3) of the EU ePrivacy Directive (2002/58/EC, as amended), cookies that are strictly necessary to provide a service explicitly requested by the user are exempt from the consent requirement. User authentication (session cookies) and security tokens (CSRF cookies) fall squarely within this exemption.

This is why you will not see a cookie consent banner on AiCitationChecker. We only use the cookies the law doesn't require consent for, and we tell you about them clearly here.

How to Manage or Disable Cookies

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to view, delete, or block cookies. Instructions for common browsers:

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
  • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions

Important: If you disable or delete the session cookie for AiCitationChecker, you will be logged out and will not be able to stay authenticated. The application requires the session cookie to function.

Cookies We Do NOT Use

  • Google Analytics or any other analytics platform
  • Advertising or retargeting cookies
  • Behavioral profiling or cross-site tracking cookies
  • Social media tracking pixels
  • Persistent tracking cookies of any kind outside of the Lemon Squeezy checkout flow

Legal Framework

This Cookie Policy is governed by the EU ePrivacy Directive (2002/58/EC, as amended by 2009/136/EC), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (Regulation (EU) 2016/679), and applicable Romanian data protection law.

For more information on how we process personal data, see our Privacy Policy.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever add new cookies or change our cookie practices, we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date. We do not anticipate significant changes given our minimal cookie usage.
